Devotion:

What Does Jesus Say?

(W.D.J.S)
Read James 1:5-8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Raymond sank into the chair and reached for the breakfast cereal. “I didn’t sleep well last night,” he moaned.

“Worried about what to do?” his dad asked.

“I can’t make up my mind,” he complained. “I don’t know what’s the best thing to do.”

“Have you asked anyone for advise?” Dad asked as he set a glass of orange juice in front of Raymond.

“Yeah, Coach says gym class will keep my body healthy. Mrs. Taylor, the chorus teacher, says music will stretch my mind. But I don’t know if I should have a healthy body or a stretched mind. I don’t have time to do both.  I asked my friend, Curtis, and he says basketball is more cool than playing in the band.”

“Should you choose to do something just because it’s cool?” Dad asked.

            “No way,” Raymond answered.

Raymond’s dad smiled, then asked, “What do those letters on your shirt stand for?”

Raymond stared down at the W.W.J.D. on the front of his tee shirt. “I’m not sure what Jesus would do. He was never in fifth grade at my school. ”

“Why not change those letters to WDJS instead.” his dad suggested.

“What does WDJS stand for?” Raymond asked.

Dad answered, “What Does Jesus Say”. Then he added, “Read James 1:5-8 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17. That should help.”

“Thanks, Dad.” Raymond hurried to get his Bible. After reading the verses he knew what he had to do. He had to ask the Lord for wisdom, then he would know better how to make the right choice.

To Think About: Do you ask the Lord first when you have a decision to make? Or like Raymond, do you ask everyone else first? Where did Raymond find the answer to his problem?

To Remember: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 (NKJV

To Pray: Dear God, Every day I have to make decisions. Sometimes they are hard to make. It helps to ask others if they know how to give good answers. But help me to ask You for wisdom first by praying and reading the Bible. I know you will give the best advise.
